AuraFlow – Overview
Turn your room into the experience.
AuraFlow is an immersive entertainment platform that synchronizes video, smart lighting, and your television to transform an ordinary room into part of what you’re watching.
Choose an experience. Choose where to watch it. Assign the lights around you. AuraFlow handles the rest.
A flight through a neon tunnel can send color racing across the room. A roller coaster can flash and surge with every turn. A quiet journey through a coral reef can fill the space with shifting blues and greens. A stage performance can become a complete synchronized light show.
AuraFlow was built by WebsWoven to explore something beyond traditional smart-home lighting:
What if the lights weren’t just reacting to the screen — what if they were part of the experience?
Video + Light + Space
AuraFlow combines three elements into a single experience:
THE SCREEN
AuraFlow sends specially prepared video experiences to a compatible Cast display.
THE LIGHTS
Smart lights throughout the room reproduce colors, movement, flashes, fades and other lighting effects coordinated with the experience.
THE ROOM
Users decide which physical lights correspond to different areas of the screen, allowing an effect to move beyond the television and into the surrounding space.
The result is an experience that feels much larger than the screen itself.
More Than Screen Mirroring
AuraFlow isn’t simply sampling one average color from a television.
Many AuraFlow experiences use Lightmaps — lighting data generated by analyzing the video across multiple areas of the image over time.
The room can therefore react differently depending on what is happening in different parts of the picture.
A bright object moving from the left side of the video toward the right can produce a corresponding movement through the lights in the room.
Other experiences use Programmed Lighting, allowing lighting sequences to be choreographed independently for dramatic effects that aren’t limited to the colors visible on screen.
That gives AuraFlow two very different tools:
Lightmap Mode — lighting derived from the actual visual experience.
Programmed Mode — lighting designed specifically for the experience.
An Entire Library of Experiences
AuraFlow isn’t tied to a single movie or demonstration.
It includes a growing library of experiences ranging from relaxing environments to high-energy visual rides.
Scenic & Ambient
Turn the room into a relaxing visual environment with experiences such as fireplaces, oceans, atmospheric landscapes and other ambient scenes.
Cinematic
Lighting becomes part of dramatic visual sequences, digital environments, space scenes and other cinematic experiences.
Energy
Fast-moving visuals, intense colors and aggressive lighting effects turn the room into something closer to a miniature stage show.
POV
This is where AuraFlow gets especially fun.
Experience the screen from a first-person perspective while the room reacts around you:
- Fly through canyons and digital tunnels
- Ride roller coasters
- Enter wormholes
- Race cars
- Fly aircraft
- Explore surreal environments
- Travel through space
- Drop into completely impossible worlds
The television becomes the window.
The lighting makes the room disappear.
Put Your Lights Where They Actually Are
Every room is different.
AuraFlow allows lights to be assigned spatially so the software understands where they are located around the display.
A simple mapping interface lets users associate lights with different regions of the screen.
And AuraFlow follows an important rule:
Only the lights you assign to an experience are controlled.
The kitchen light doesn’t need to start flashing just because you’re flying through a wormhole in the living room.
Philips Hue + Home Assistant
AuraFlow began with deep Philips Hue integration, including support for multiple Hue Bridges and individually mapped lights.
The platform is now expanding beyond a Hue-only environment through Home Assistant.
Home Assistant can expose lighting devices from many different manufacturers through a common smart-home platform, giving AuraFlow a path toward supporting a much broader range of bulbs, strips, fixtures and lighting systems.
The goal is simple:
AuraFlow shouldn’t require one particular brand of smart light.
If a compatible light can be controlled through the platform, AuraFlow should eventually be able to make it part of the show.
Casting Built In
AuraFlow discovers compatible Cast devices and lets the user select where an experience should play.
Video is sent to the selected display while AuraFlow continues coordinating the lighting from the controlling device.
Playback controls provide quick access to the currently playing experience, what’s coming next, and the ability to stop the experience and return the room to normal.
From a Few Lights to a Complete Environment
One of the ideas behind AuraFlow is scalability.
A simple setup might be:
1 TV + Chromecast + 3 smart bulbs
A more elaborate installation could include:
Multiple Hue Bridges + light strips + lamps + fixtures + Home Assistant devices + a large display or projector
The same underlying concept works for both.
Built for More Than the Living Room
AuraFlow started as an immersive home-entertainment experiment, but the technology naturally opens the door to much larger applications.
Imagine AuraFlow powering:
Home theaters
Video synchronized with lighting throughout the room.
Parties
Visual experiences accompanied by coordinated lighting effects.
Stage performances
Pre-produced video and lighting sequences running together as a single show.
Halloween displays
Haunted walkthroughs, atmospheric video and synchronized lighting.
Events and installations
Large displays surrounded by individually controlled lighting zones.
Relaxation environments
Slow-moving landscapes and ambient lighting filling an entire room.
And we’re still experimenting.
Built by WebsWoven
AuraFlow is an ongoing WebsWoven software project combining:
Flutter development • Smart-home integration • Google Cast • Philips Hue • Home Assistant • Video processing • Lighting analysis • UI/UX design
It’s also an example of the kind of project we love building:
Something that starts with a simple question —
“Wouldn’t it be cool if…?”
—and eventually turns into working software.
AuraFlow is still evolving.
We’re continuing to expand device compatibility, refine synchronized lighting, add new experiences, and experiment with entirely new ways of making digital media extend beyond the screen.
